Last Thursday, Alec Baldwin accidentally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded the film’s director, Joel Souza, on a film set in New Mexico. He was shooting for a film titled ‘Rust’.

Mr. Baldwin, though very devastated by the incident, said to the police that he was told that it was a “cold gun” when it was handed to him. “Cold gun” is the term used when the gun has blanks, fake bullets, that are used in shooting scenes in films.

He was pointing at the camera for a particular shot when he accidentally pulled the trigger, tragically killing Hutchins and wounding Souza.

However, based on the latest report that was out just a few minutes ago, it is clear that someone had handed the actor a revolver with live rounds.

Alec Baldwin was handed a gun with a live round in it on a film set in New Mexico, the local sheriff has said.

Police authorities have recovered around 600 pieces of evidence from in and around the filming spot, including 3 guns and close to 500 rounds of bullets. They suspect that bullets could be a mix of both live rounds and blanks.

The local Sheriff told the reporters that there were around 100 people working at the film set and all of them would be questioned. No arrests have been made or charges filed so far in the investigation.

He also said that Mr. Baldwin was cooperating well with the officials.

The most shocking information is that Mr.Baldwin was handed a revolver with live rounds of bullets for the scene by someone whose identity is yet to be confirmed.

“I think the facts are clear — a weapon was handed to Mr. Baldwin. The weapon is functional and fired a live round, killing Ms. Hutchins and injuring Mr. Souza, “the Sheriff said.

A ‘lead projectile’ found in Mr. Souza’s shoulder and the firearm that was used by the actor were handed over as evidence.

“Right now we’re going to determine how those got there, why they were there — because they shouldn’t have been there,” he added.

Two other people had handled the gun before it was passed on to Mr. Baldwin: the armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed and the film’s assistant director Dave Halls.

Mr. Halls had called out, “Cold gun” as he handed over the weapon to the actor. He has now admitted to investigators that he did not check the gun’s chamber for live rounds before handing it to the actor.

Whereas Hannah Reed said that live rounds had not been kept at the filming spot and that access to guns was restricted to only a few people, and the guns were usually kept in a safe.

The actor may or may not face criminal charges, as it is far too early to tell anything. The Sheriff also added that this case was really complicated and would require lots of legal research and analysis before coming to any conclusion.

So, who is this mystery man who loaded the gun with real bullets? Could this whole thing have been premeditated and executed to put the actor in trouble? Even if it were so, why target a harmless cinematographer? What’s the connection and who is responsible for this brutal, rare, and saddening incident?
