Vocal Pays 10 Times Lower Than Medium For Vocal+ Members
It’s shockingly low for the others
I did a small experiment this month.
I dumped every piece I wrote on Medium onto Vocal, the same day. It’s about 25 pieces.
I am a Vocal+ member. Vocal pays $6 per 1000 reads for Vocal+ members and approximately $3.8 for non-members.
So far, on Medium, I have earned $31 this month.
In Vocal, I’ve got around $3 for the same number of articles. This includes two top stories. Two of my stories were chosen to be displayed on Vocal’s main page for 24 hours. There was a big spike in the reading numbers during that period.
Whereas on Medium, I’ve only had a very few curated pieces this month. I think around 3 or 4 pieces out of 25.
As a Vocal+ member, I was able to earn $3 per month, so non-members will likely earn half that.
Also, I did not make any effort to promote my pieces on both platforms.
Vocal doesn’t have publications or curation. If you don’t promote or know how to promote your pieces, this is what you earn. 10 times lower than Medium.
